The Swan Braybrooke - 25th August 2016
Apologies for the late entry for the last dance out of 2016 - like everyone else Holidays and the like got in the way and it was almost with a sigh of relief when Bonny Green Garters was called for the last time in 2016 in the dark. Followed by a request for another dance from a diminished audience. The side replied with Jenny Lind considered to be the least risky when done in failing light
It has been a difficult year with the ongoing shortage of dancers requiring a very flexible approach - but through it all the underlying 'sense of fun' bubbles away keeping us all going.
Many thanks are owed to Jonathon Una and Gordon Blunt from Rutland and Jim and Philip from Northampton who have both helped us out during the year and without who's presence we would have been seriously stuck. 'Also to Cobbled together' who had to call off sharing the last nigh due to ......."A lack of Dancers' - they were down to 3.
And through it all our illustrious Squire continues determinedly towards the East Coast. He'll know when he gets there as it gets very wet underfoot and there's a plentiful supply of fish and chips . for reasons unknown it made me think of J R R Tolkiens book The Hobbit also titled 'There and back again' - I'm pretty sure Squire is on a one way ticket
Winter Practice awaits us in October along with longer nights and frost and snow. I have an an anoying habit I am told of quoting verses or lines from songs. I can't miss an opportunity to quote a couple of verses from the song 'The January Man' by Dave Birland
"September man is standing near to saddle up and lead the year - and autumn is his bridle and the man of New October takes the reins and early frost is on his shoulders.
Perhaps this New October may produce an increase in our numbers - lets hope so.
