Great Oakley U3A - Monday 23rd May 2016
As a member of the Great Oakley U3A - Squire David Ball is well accustomed to the variety off styles and subjects from Guest Speakers. On Monday afternoon 'the Tables were turned' when David stood up to present a brief history and explantion of Morris Dancing , whose origin lies back in history and which has been the subject of much debate over centuries. To brighten up the proceedings several members of the Side had taken 'Monday off' to be available to demonstrate some of what Braybroooke Morris Dancers do.
The was also the opportunity to push the recruiting drive as two of Great Oakleys U3A nenbers have already joined the side. Both were about , to quote Squire David, to loose their 'Morris Dancing Virginity' by Dancing out for the first time. In the event only Sue was sacrificed by dancing 3 times - Jane was resting a torn knee ligament so will be out of action for another 3 weeks.
The side demonstrated in their usual style, over coming the shortage of dancers by applying some inginuity , turning 8 person dances in dances for 4.
The audience appeared to have enjoyed the proceedings with quite a lot of positive comment and feed back - but how many will take a step further ???
