The Fox - Hallaton - Thursday 17th August 2017
Not quite sure what happened here but on an evening with such perfect near Autumnal light that I had composed a competition winning shot in my head before I got there. Rowena was asking what the hurry was. Not unusually waiting for a musician the side milled about, chattered , hands in pockets, kicking up the gravel - no hurry then as I swore through gritted teeth watching the fast fading light drift away along with my chances of winning the latest all singing all dancing £750 worth of Nikon DSLR with a picture of what Summer means to people - to a Morris Dancer summer means 'Dancing Out'.In the time milling around we could have Balanced the straw and got Jockie to the fair I'd have shot several hundred images to get 2 or 3 to submit - there you go 'jobs a gudun' - well never mind there's always next year. (Apologies to anyone offended by my ramblings no offence intended it's supposed (?) to be mildly amusing)
The Fox is an interesting place to dance as it is built next to the duck pond which means the 'racing line' around the pond takes the hapless driver onto what would normally be the pavement - dancing therefore becomes a challenge for those dancing next t the road as the tarmac in front of the pub as a noticeable slope to the road. The alternative is the Car Park which has its own challenges. It is always full when we get there and for some reason drivers are compelled to drive into it at 50mph - so you takes your choice - having said all of that we had a nice night with a reasonable audience - some had sneaked back into the pub as we turned up. A nice balmy evening but a portent of Autumn among the trees from the fading sun. We danced until it was dark.
