Leire & Dunton Beaver's - Leire Village Hall -Tuesday 6th May 2017
An email to Braybrooke Morris Dancers from someone called 'Mole' asking if we could do a demonstration for Leire and Dunton Beavers could hardly be ignored. Having rustled up almost all side members we set of in pouring rain to the North side of Lutterworth. About 21 Beavers plus helpers were assembled for a chance to learn about and take part in a very English Tradition - Morris Dancing!
The evening started with a very brief 'history of Morris' from Secretary Pauline followed by a demonstration dance, 'Constant Billy' this was followed by the challenge that by the end of the 1 hour session all would be dancing Constant Billy.
We like a good Challenge !!
So we set about teaching a clapping version with boisterous participation , pushing and shoving and a lot of noise we set about the task. By just after 7.00pm all declared that they were ready , the musicians struck up the tune and off we went in a passable version of a favorite Morris Dance.
What was nice about this event was that the young people assembled were interested and involved from the start. Yes it was noisy but so it should be with 20+ youngsters together and they were all polite and fun to be with - a tribute to parents and helpers. The event finished with the traditional Morris Farewell - Bonny Green Garters and we all left with the feeling of a job well done. Thanks Leire and Dunton Beavers we really enjoyed it - we hope you did.
