St Mary's Place , Market Harborough - Saturday 13th June 2015
Last year our Saturday support for Macmillan Day meant dancing in warm sunshine. Today was the opposite. Not exactly cold but certainly wet. Not a torrential down pour in fact if you lived on the coast you'd have called it a 'fret' . As the morning progressed it gradually got worse. However it takes more than a bit of damp to stop us dancing and the same applies to Hips 'n' Haws who's presence was much appreciated , sharing the dancing between us. We were a bit short handed it worked out at 5.1/2 dancers (counting me as a half) so it was down to dancing 'Constant Billy' and the 'Bonnie Dundee' (Adderbury Hay) version of Skirmish alternately for an hour or grasping the nettle and extending my repertoire to include 'Lads a Bunchum' which I hadn't danced before and was only familiar with the 'sticking' from Videos (Thanks Brenda - we managed not to damage each other) and 'Shepherds Hay'. That as well as a couple of 4 man versions of dances inspired by Squire and and others meant we muddled through - not that the public noticed
With its reputation for being wet 'Hip's and Haw's ' dancing 'Manchester' was more than appropriate.
We enjoyed ourselves even if it was wet and our position near the Market and at the foot of St Mary's Bridge was not as good as our previous location at the front of Sainsbury's .
Thanks to Tony of Hips 'n' Haws for putting my camera to good use while I was dancing - there are several good images with which to embarrass both my sons .
Total collected for the day in damp notes was £ 905.90 down on last year but a good effort considering the rain and the Carnival
