1st Market Harborough Ise and Welland Beaver colony 17/05/2016
Braybrooke Morris Dancers teach Morris to Harborough Beavers.
At this weeks Tuesday Evening meeting 17th May the 1st Market Harborough Ise and Welland Beaver colony's we're in for something different as earlier in the year leader Susan Fox had arranged a visit from Brayubrooke Morris Dancers to demonstrate and hopefully teach a dance to the group.
So there we were with around 25 or 26 Beavers eager to get on with it. when offered the choice between a 'handkie dance' and a 'stick dance' the latter got the vote. So Secretary Pauline and Squire David ably assisted by side members Benda and Gail , set about teaching the colony "Constant Billy' - a two stick dance from the Cotswolds. After a demonstration from the Braybrooke side it was all out teaching the beavers the 'verse ' and 'chorus' to the dance. After about half an hour the three groups of dancers had just about worked out the pattern of things and in spite of some vigorous sticking everyone and every thing was intact.
The reward for the Grand Finale was to be equipped with a colourful hat and some bells. The two adult male leaders were quick to borrow 'bell pads and hats' and off they all went again.
By this time everyone was getting tired but not too tired to learn a second dance 'Shepherd's Hay'.
At the close of the session the Beavers gave three cheers for the efforts of the Braybrooke side and the 'dancers' were all presented with a Certificate for dancing with Braybrooke
It was a fun hour and a quarter and everyone seemed to enjoy it but there were other benefits. The Beaver Scout Leader at the 1st Market Harborough Scout group is currently working on her 'World Badge' and the Beavers are working on their International badge one of the requirements is for them to have a go at a craft dance or song that is traditional to our country. So the visit from Braybrooke Morris Dancers 'ticked several boxes' for the colony.
