30th ANNIVERSARY 'DAY OF DANCE - SATURDAY 1st August 2019
Saturday 3rd August 2019 started out good with sunshine and blue which lasted throughout the days events which started with Tea or Coffee and biscuits for dancers as they arrived. By 10.30 am the dancing was opened by the Anniversary side appropriately dancing the 'Braybrooke Stick Dance, not to be confused with the Braybrooke Dancing continued seamlessly as the honours went to each side in turn to tackle the slope on the pub car park.
The following sides were represented through out the day with the following sides represented
Bakanalia Border Morris
St.Katherines Morris
Northamprton Morrris Men
Ansty Royale Chalfont
Rutland Morris Men
Corby Conspiracy
Dancing was performed at
The Swan , Braybrooke - then on to
East Carlton Country Park - which was already busy with an Agricultural and Tractor even. Fortunately the Patio immediately in front of the Cafe was clear so we took it over for about 1.1/2 hours having lunch as we danced. It was at this point fledgling dancers from newly formed Corby Conspiracy joined us for the afternoon
Then it was onto Welland Park in front of the Cafe , and quite a nice crowed. It was at this point the Bakanalia departed for another event but their time spent with us up to mid afternoon was priceless, full of energy as good Border Morris is
No Day of Dance would be complete without dancing at Foxton Locks - which is where we went to next for an hour or so outside of the 'Foxton Locks Inn'. The pub was extreamly busy , so the arrival of +50 assorted Morris Dancers and entourage just added to the fun.
By about 4.45pm everyone had danced enough so events were called to a close and what remained of our 'group headed back' on the bus to either Braybrooke Village Hall for tea and some very nice home baked cakes - or up the road 100 yds to the pub for a pint of the pub's best foaming Ale.
There was one final act to be carried out. It just so happens that 3 members of the side formed in 1989 are still actively associated with the side 30 years on. Pauline Dawes {Secretary and Dancer} Bill Roberts {Musician} and Geoff Pitcher (Bagman and Dancer} we're all presented with special edition sterling silver badges with the Braybrooke Griffen contrasting in copper made by another Braybrooke Morris Dancers member Rowena Hewitt {Musician, Dancer and Silversmith.
Thanks to all who helped to organise and make this such a day to remember. Dancers, Musicians, Tea , cake and biscuit providers and servers, the Bus driver
Fair to say a jolly good time was had by all
