1st Kilworth Beaver Troop - Husbands Bosworth Scout Hut - Thursday 16th November 2017
'Considering October to April is our 'closed' season' this outing was the 4th since winter practice started , and it was well worth taking on. Teaching 20+ young people Traditional Dances is one way of bringing their attention to some of the Customs and Traditions of the British Isles , which help in getting badges. But more they like sticks.
We had just over an hour to teach them a special version of 'Constant Billy', a two stick dance from the Cotswolds starting from scratch. The group were split into 2x 6 person teams and 1 x8 person team Organised by the Side's secretary, Pauline and assisted ' by side members. The Beavers learnt how dances are like songs bwcause they have verses and choruses. They were introduced to different movements like Half gyp' and 'Back to Back'. As the session was approaching it's finish the three sets of Beavers each performed the dance in turn. They all managed with a little assistance and did a really good job in view of the time available. Some parents arrived in time to see the final performance The Dancers and Musicians from Braybrooke Morris Dancers were given a rousing Beaver 'Thank you', organised by Mole and Fox. So slightly later than usual all went home happy with what they had done(and probably chanting "Clap Left: Clap right from the dance instructions)
