5th Kettering Beavers - Scout hut St. Michael's Church - Kettering Wednesday 24th April 2019
Most Teams have a pre-season 'run out and our Team or 'Side' is no different. Our season Starts on May Day (1st May) so we were pleased to be asked by 5th Kettering Beavers to do a demonstration for them just before our season started. In fact we were not just there to do some dancing - we were there to teach 18 Beavers to dance a Morris Dance called 'Constant Billy'- in about an hour and half to make it interesting it is a dance with sticks. The 'dancers were split into 3 groups each with a couple of the Braybrooke side to teach them. Like a song dances have a 'verse' and a Chorus which is repeated after part of the dance is where the 'sticking comes in. The dance was taught clapping hands so that everyone has a chance to learn without damage. If the side thought by the end that everyone was good enough then '5th Kettering Beaver Morris Dancers' complete with hats and mini Baldricks (crossed over belts) would demonstrate to collecting parents Constant Billy with 2 sticks - and they did - making a real success in a short time.
