Angie's Morris Surprise - Paulieys Caterers Corby - Wednesday 10th July 2019
TAt the end of June we received a long email from a Lady called Helen who is Operations Manager at Brakes in Corby. One her team Angie Panter ,planned to retire in December, Helen knew that Angie had a long term fascination with Morris dancing but had never had the opportunity to try it. So Helen emailed Braybroke Morris Dancers in the hope we could help. Being food processors Brakes is very results driven and is a very tight operation with an office full of telephonists taking orders over the phone - so the timing was to be tight and fixed on one day - a Wednesday - which immediately hit the number of members we could get to join in. We still decided to say yes and Helen set up a plan that on Wednesday 10th July we would arrive a 11.30am precisely to meet Angie , who up to this point would have no idea what was going on. We would be allowed to take her into the car park (which had been cordoned off by Health & Safety) teacher Constant BIlly. Her colleagues would be allowed to leave their desks at 12.00 noon as part of their lunch break to watch Angie demonstrate her new skill - dancing 'Constant Billy' At 12.30pm we were invited inside for tea and cakes and at 13.00 it was expected we would have gone.
No pressure there then!!
In fact there was no pressure at all having survived the shock of bell clanking Morris Dancers arriving to carry her off she was into Baldricks and Bell Pads and away. Foreman Gail and squire did a good job on speed learning Constant Billy with a couple of minor mods (dropping the hay for a turn out on both sides) Angie was soon away as if she'd been dancing for years and her sticking was brilliant . Her colleagues were soon out to see her and we were all back inside and gone according to plan
We're hoping that we have a potential 'New recruit in the making
Thanks to everyone from Braybrooke wo supported this project and also Steph and Antonia from Corby Conspiracy
