FEAST 2017 - The Swan Braybrooke - Thursday 2nd February 2017
What better way to start off a new season than with a Feast. This was the case on 2nd February when around 30 dancers musicians and invited guests turned up at the Swan for some food , dancing and entertainment. The Pub provided the first course and the side and guests provided the deserts and entertainment. 'Party Pieces' included the story behind the dance "Macpherson's Rant" by Squire David followed by Bill and Rowena playing the tune. This was followed by Bill & Rowena's version of a 16th Century ballad 'Go from my window'. Pauline gave some interesting advice on weather forecasting followed by a story which cleverly included the names of around 46 dances performed at one time or another by the side. Former side member Andy Wenham played two self written Polka's and Tony Bolton sang 'Pleasant and Delightful, with everyone joining in. Lloyd Smith' founding Squire, related having finally hung up his bells following the break up of his side due to a lack of dancers. Jonathan Unna, a regular supporter of Braybrooke who dances with Rutland Morris, gave a solo performance of "Princess Royal." while Liz Pearce and Steve Tunnicliff from New St. Georges Morris added to the local musicians.
Dancing in a very confined space included Constant Billy, Highland Mary (Chicken Chasing), Jenny Lind , Smash the windows , Skirmish and several others.
All agreed it had been a good night.
