Countesthorpe Crematorium / Carpenters Arms Shearsby
Thursday August 9th 2018 - Eddies Funeral
There can be fewer strange sites than a bunch of Morris dancers pouring out of a Crematorium at the end of a funeral service , "leping about" waving hankies , dancing twice round the forecourt. It was what Eddie had asked for along with no dressing in black other than Morris uniform trousers and singing his favourite rude words to the Morris farewell Bonny Green Garters as the 'guests' filed past the coffin on the way out. How could we not do it for our old friend Eddie.
So it was with a mixture of sadness and joy that the family and friends of Eddie Strover , longstanding member and former Squire of Baybrooke Morris Dancers, assembled at Countesthorpe Crematorium on Thursday 9th August 2018, to pay their final respects to a man who was loved by all who knew him. As well as his widow June, children Carol, Dawn and Clifford, grandchildren Holly and Joe there was a large turnout of friends including representatives of Leicester Morris Men , Rutland Morris Men, and Paragon Pit as well as the majority of members of Braybrooke Morris Dancers. At the end of the service , in tribute to Eddie the assembled Morris dancers left the Crematorium and went twice around a roundabout dancing the traditional Morris Dancers farewell or final song Bonny Green Garters. Afterwards the family and guests adjourned to the Chandlers Arms at Shearsby for refreshments and more dancing.
RIP Eddie Strover you will be greatly missed.
