Swan Braybrooke - Feast 2018 - Thursday 22nd February 2018
Braybrooke Morris Dancers 2018 Feast
Braybrooke Morris Dancers have been out again. Last Thursday evening 22nd February the side got together at The Swan in Braybrooke for their annual feast. Loosely based on the 'Plough Monday' celebrations which marked the start of the agricultural year and was started of with a basic meal and entertainment before the hard work of Ploughing started. Traditionally Plough Monday was the first Monday after 12th night. Plough Monday Celebrations are recorded as far back as C10 /C11 and there are links with Morris dancing - particularily Border Morris and Molly Dancing. Thursday the meal was Chillie , Stew and Vegetable Lasagne followed by Bread and Butter Pudding and custard as well as cakes from side members. Party pieces included Squire David Ball playing guitar supported by Bill Hewitt, as well as poems and songs from other members. Inspite of the hanging lights we managed 6 dances with the village and the pub represented by Jenny Tomothy and from the Swan David and Candace.
Our first 'Dance Out' of 2018 is on Saturday 10th March , from 11.00am to 1.00pm between Argos and Wilko in St Mary's Place Market Harborough in support of the Marie Curie Cancer Charity. We are being joined by Bakanalia Border Morris , Cobbled Together' and St Katherines Morris - a nice spring day would do nicely
