Foxton Locks - Mayday celebration - 1st May 2016
The weather on Sunday May 1st was ideal for Morris Dancing and Braybrooke Morris Dancers managed to field a full side to entertain a good crowd of visitors to Foxton Locks. Dancing from 12.00 noon to 1.30pm the side entertained not only with dancing but also a vocal celebration of May Day singing the traditional West Country May Day song 'Hal and Tow'. A good number of the watching crowd joined in with the chorus.
Over all an enjoyable hour and a half for dancers and public alike. On the down side Dancing out at the Shoulder of Mutton at Foxton on 12th May has had to be cancelled as we can't get enough of the side together to be able to dance. So we are still in desperate need of new dancers. Anyone reading this who might be interested in continuing a tradition spanning 10 Centuries please email "[email protected]" for more information
Thanks to Chris Hewitt for some of the images - one of which was used in the Harborough Mail and to Nicola Hewitt for some of the Video in Constant Billy , Upton Stick Dance and 'Hal and Tow' - hadn't realised it was quite so windy
