Harbrough 'Late Night' Christmas Fair - 4th December 2015
"An interesting night for Braybrooke Morris Dancers tonight as we danced out in Market Harborough at the annual "Christmas Fayer". Meeting time had been set at 6.30pm . We milled around opposite 'Starbuck's wondering where Squire Daviid Ball was and decided to start dancing., We discovered later his car had broken down between Corby and Harborough and was being towed back to Corby.Dancing started by setting some dances to Christmas Tunes like 'While Shepherds watched. When we heard about David's car we had a problem. Not only is David the side's Squire, he is the 'Keeper of the Sticks' - and Morris Dancers struggle to dance stick dances without them. Being an inventive bunch' two of the side headed for Wilco's and came back with half a dozen brush handles and a junior hacksaw. While they were away the remaining dancers got themselves out of trouble using 'light sabres' for 'Skirmish' and 'Ring o' Bells'. '
Constant Billy' was danced without sticks but clapping our hands instead thoughts occurred of the Monty Python Fish Slapping Dance!!). The 'stick's from Wilco's were put to good use for the rest of the evening.
Having danced outside Starbucks for about an hour we moved location to Church Street where the wind was whistling up it like the Khyber Pass. As the temperature dropped and the crowds thinned 'Bonny Green Garters' was called for about 8.30pm . Squire will be annoyed to have missed it but not for the first time in 2015 the side rallied round and put in a creditable performance aided once again by Gordon from Rutland Morris- Thanks again Gordon
