The Black Horse - Cold Ashby - Thursday 2nd August 2018
Following on from the previous weeks news that former Squire and long time member of the side, Eddie Strover , had passed away at home while we were dancing out Bonny Green Garters at Lubenham we decided that Cold Ashby would be an opportunity to celebrate our friend and mentors life. A Morris Dancer through and through. We were honoured by the presence of his widow June and son Clifford, Carol and grand children Holly and Joe. Clifford came out of 20 years retirement from Morris to dance , one of Eddies favourites a solo jig, Ladies Pleasure , wearing some of his dad's old pre Braybrooke kit from Isca Morris. A warm sunny evening with a few locals and the majority of the side present along with our friend Jonathan from Rutland Morris proved to be just right.
Eddie would have loved it. In tribute along with many favourite dances "Mona's Delight" danced with the Manx Triskelion Flag and Bonny Green Garters would have had him smiling. Bonny Green Garters is the Morris Dancers traditonal finale for with new words were written by one of Braybrookes Musicians. This was followed by the version preferred by Eddie.

Revised Lyrics to Bonny Green Garters
Here's to our Eddie we loved him so well
Although to his songs we were martyr's
Farewell dear friend We will all think of you
Every time we dance "Bonny Green Garters"
Eddies preferred variation
Here's to the ladies we love them so well
Though some are regular tarters
It's off with their knickers and off with their bras
And to Hell with their Bonny Green Garters
Here's to our Eddie we loved him so well
Although to his songs we were martyr's
Farewell dear friend We will all think of you
Every time we dance "Bonny Green Garters"
Eddies preferred variation
Here's to the ladies we love them so well
Though some are regular tarters
It's off with their knickers and off with their bras
And to Hell with their Bonny Green Garters
